Like a Pencil in a Crayon Box

The other day I had some errands to run and since LittleDuckling's birthday is coming up I decided to take him to lunch and then let him pick out a birthday present. Well, FunnyMan was home too, so it was just the boys and me. On the way over FunnyMan says something about a song which I happened to know, which then spurred a conversation about another "song"... The Double Dutch Bus.

So, I did what any other seemingly normal person would do. I broke out into song. Okay, well, not "normal", but I broke out into song nevertheless. We were in transit to the restaurant and the boys just laughed at me and rolled their eyes. But, I choose to believe that at least one of them was secretly impressed that I knew all of the words. Haha!

They really had a hay-day when I found the video on YouTube (from my phone) and plugged it in to the surround sound. This little gem is just so special I couldn't resist.

At the restaurant, I was having some fun with them. LittleDuckling made use of some air quotes and commented that I seemed a little too "happy" -- again. I smiled. It's true I am. He told me that I need to "keep it down" before people start looking at me. Haha. I replied with "well, at least I didn't 'Raise the Roof' (complete with the raising arms with open palm to ceiling motion... yes, I did)." Again, he was a little embarrassed. Me? Oh, I didn't care. I just laughed. Then, he says THIS:

Mom -- You're like a mechanical pencil trying to fit into a box of crayons.

Bwahahahahahahaha! What I've got here folks is one clever, witty kid. Man, I know I'm a little "out there". But I am learning to love me. Ain't no shame... hehehe.

Anyway -- for your viewing pleasure, The Double Dutch Bus! Take it away, Frankie!

The only solace a parent can get sometimes is that they are able to embarrass their children.

Is it sad that I can sing along knowing each and every word? AND that I was bee-bopping along to the music?

holy crap. Holli and Billy's comment has me laughing so hard. Seriously, I have never heard of the double dutch bus. But now I feel an odd mixture of hilarity, embarrassment, and awe. This wasn't on SNL? This was FOR REAL? Oh man. That's awesome in a scary sort of way. ;-)
