30 Days of Gratitude: Day Eight

Today, being Election Day, I thought it would be a little apropos to express that I am grateful for my right to vote.

Not only do we have a right to vote because of the freedoms our forefathers fought for this nation, but as a woman I have the right to cast my political beliefs through voting.  To me, voting is more than a civic duty or a "right"; it is a privilege as I realize that there are many other nations where this isn't the way things roll.  I also am a firm believer that those who don't vote, don't have a right to complain about the results.  I have always taken my voting responsibilities seriously and believe the best voter is an informed voter.

And even though it's an off-year municipal election, I hope you will take a few minutes to find out what's on the ballot in your area.  If you're in Utah, like me, you can go {{HERE}}  to find your polling place, who the candidates are and which issues are on the ballot this time.

I am grateful for my right to vote.

Should I keep my long hair? Now if I cut it, mind you, I would not cut it short. I would probably leave it around shoulder length. Anyway...whaddya think? Should I cut it?

Election Results Just In...

First of all, I would like to thank all of you who exercised your right in honor of your bloggy duty and voted in last Friday's election. The polls are now closed and votes have been tallied. Here is what YOU, the people said...

1) Do you prefer a pen with black ink or blue ink?
Black 60.7% Blue 39.3%

2) Who's the better comedian? Jerry Seinfeld or Steve Carell?
Jerry 65% Steve 35%

3) Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
Chicken 84.2% Egg 15.8%

4) Would you rather be Bald or Fat?
Fat 73.7% Bald 26.3%

5) Do you use the seat covers in public restrooms?
Yes 54.5% No 45.5%

6) Who'd make a better U.S. President? Homer Simpson or Dwight Shrute?
Dwight 57.1% Homer 42.9%

As you can see those last two questions proved to be a tough race. But the seat covers have it, and I suppose Dwight wins because he is after all, non-animated.

Honestly, my head hurt this past week with all of the last-minute mud-slinging, feeling judged for the way I voted, and hearing the aftermath; everyone's opinions and more mud-slinging and judging.

So, in the spirit of the election, I have decided to "Open The Polls" here on my blog. Please do your bloggy duty - exercise your right to vote! Vote Here. Vote Now. (That's my slogan. Just made it up. Pretty good, eh?) Anyway, don't worry if you're not informed...it's all Mindless anyway. Cuz That's How I roll...right?

Which Christmas Pic to Pick?

Each year I send out the annual Christmas letter, complete with Family Photo. I know some people HATE to receive this as they feel is it filled with boastful commendations for their offspring. You're right - I hate some of those too, though I do think that parents have a little bit of bragatorial rights at least once per year.

In my annual letters, here are the rules I try to follow:
1 paragraph per person.
Keep it interesting.
Add Humor.
Keep it to one page or less.

In an effort to not crank out the same-ol' same-ol' every year, here are some things I have done to mix-it up or add a bit of creativity.

"A Year In Review" - highlighting one event from each month, i.e., "January - Suzie gets braces. February - Annual trip to Grandma's", etc.

"From a Pet's Perspective" - at the time we didn't have our 4-Legged Creature. So, I wrote it from the Chia Pet's perspective.

"'Twas the Night Before Christmas" - Switched the poem up to be about the kids.

Well, you get the idea. The years I didn't have a "fresh" idea for a letter, we tried to do something fun with the picture. When the Winter Olympics came to UT, ROOTS hats were all the rave. So, we had our picture up in a snowy canyon with our Roots hats. We've also done one in our flannel pj's for a "Night Before Christmas" look. Last year I photo-shopped their faces into snowmen cuz we were having "Snow" much fun! Corny, I know. We've also done the nice holiday clothes. So, here are some "concepts" I am contemplating for this year. Tell me what you think or offer up your own suggestions... And HURRY!!! Pics are THIS SATURDAY!!! YIKES!!!
