Self-Perceptions

It seems like between my school schedule and my (now teenage) kids' busy lives, we rarely all have dinner with everyone present.  Recently, we did!  Waa-hoot!  Keenan was telling us something about school, and a smidge of rivalry with another guy (on the other guy's part) over a girl and he said something like, "...since I'm sort of a nerd--"  and both of the younger two kids chimed in unison, "You're not a nerd!"  It was sort of funny.

I think it's interesting how we perceive ourselves and how we think others may perceive us.  Keenan may think he's a "nerd" because he has always just done sort of his own thing.  But the fact is, he is outgoing and seems extremely confident and sure of himself while he's "under the microscope" doing his own thing.  He doesn't worry too much what other kids think.  If he wants to do something, he will.  He is easy-going and lets the little petty things roll off his shoulders and takes a lot of things in stride.  He is also very charismatic and very kind and respectful of others -- some of the reasons people seem to be drawn to him.

Basically, it's the fact that he's so cool and doesn't know it that makes him anything but a nerd.  Makes a mama proud.  He's turning into a fine young man.

//exhaling slowly//...  one down, two kids to go...  hehehe.

haha I still have about half a year until I'm a teen.

Now, what do YOU think of yourself? Keenan sees himself as a nerd. But you never said what you think of yourself as...
