The 12 Days of Christmas

We've sung it. We've heard it. Some of us have even done it with Hand-Motions. Well, all right - that last one - maybe it was just my family who did choreography. Anyway, I'm talking about "The Twelve Days of Christmas".

The fun part of the song, instead of singing it (what could be more fun than singing 12 verses???) is to select a family and give them the 12 days of Christmas. For the 12 days prior to Christmas you anonymously leave gifts for the family you choose.

Well, this year My Family has been selected to receive not one, but two "12 Days of Christmas". (See lists to the right.)

The kids are of course ecstatic. One seems to mostly be treats and goodies - which they they of course gobble right down. And the other is forming into what we believe to be a nativity scene. We have also been receiving some really great inspirational stories with each piece. My kids are thrilled that we are getting another nativity to add to our collection as I decided only last year to start collecting Nativity Scenes.

The kids want to stay up late at night and try to catch the culprits. My daughter claims to have glimpsed one of them. The dog barked ferociously, alerting her and she claims a "very tall man took off running and practically leaped across the yard to avoid being caught." I'll take her word for it.

I've explained to them that it isn't about the "who" but rather the "what" when it comes to Christmas; this season of giving.

So, to my little elves out there, where ever you are and whomever you are, we thank you for helping to make our Christmas a little extra special this year. You can only imagine how much we needed something like this! And a wish for extra Christmas Blessings your way!

someone did this for us last year. They have no idea what it meant for our kids and us. It was a rough time.

We've done it a few times before and it always makes us so happy and excited. We have so many demands on our time and aren't able to do the 12 days but we do always pick a couple of families and secretly drop off goodies. so fun!

Enjoy your secret santa and they neat things they bring. Iknow you and your kids deserve it!

That is so cool. I think that's the best kind of gift - one you give with no desire of getting anything in return other than the joy of making someone else happy. I want it to be Christmas all year!

i don't think that we've ever been on the receiving end of that...but my family has done lots of giving...and it is just soooo much fun. don't discover who it is! (we would always reveal on Christmas Eve with caroling)

That is SO beautiful! I'd love to be able to do that for someone; maybe next year. :)

And I don't mind long advice, I need all the help I can get. I'm not planning on even beginning potty training until at least February when we'll be settled in and everything. I don't want him stressed out AND worrying about pottying and stuff. Too much for a little guy. But thank you!

I love this idea with the nativity. Getting piece by piece each day until you have the completed nativity. That definitely gives the kids something to really look forward to!

Two secret santa's, lucky you. So wonderful when people really embrace the true meaning of Christmas.

We do choreography to the 12 days of Christmas every year at our ward Christmas party it has become an hilarious tradition.
