Back to The Future 80's???

I've seen the return of Strawberry Shortcake, Holly Hobbie, Care Bears, Pac Man and all sorts of things from the 80's. Of course the all-time great 80's Hits are still on the radio. But even some of the fashions are making a comeback.

Such as the Plaid Bermuda Shorts (we also called knee-length shorts "jams").
The leggings-under-the-denim skirt look is back.
As are the "Keds".

I was a fan of the preppy look, such as the bermuda shorts, the argyle sweaters, the popped collars, and the tie-the-sweater-over-the-shoulders look...

Remember the sweater vests???

And remember what we did with our "old jeans"??? Gidget Shorts!

Other 80's styles...

Remember "Pegging" our jeans??? Why did we EVER think this looked cool??? Man, I could "peg and roll" like the best of them!

Or you could just buy the baggy jeans with the "already pegged" hem at the bottom. Yeah - that was attractive!

Almost all of our denim was either acid-washed or stone-washed. And the "button-fly" jeans...my FAV!!! Don't forget the high-waisted jeans/shorts with the fold-down flap. Apparently we all liked looking like we were wearing Depends underneath!
Remember the "Cosby Sweaters"???

Better yet - the "Cosby Cardigans"!

Eastland shoes were all the rage! Cool guys wore them without socks. Girls were cool if we wore them with SLOUCH SOCKS!!! Better yet if the socks were different colors or if you doubled up with 2 pairs in contrasting colors!

Did you have a SWATCH??? If you were COOL you did!!!
And don't forget the SWATCHGUARD to "protect" your SWATCH from getting scratched!
The worst thing were the HAIRSTYLES! Here are some 80's styles that I hope we really don't see again...

Poor little girl!

So....what 80's styles have you seen make a comeback? Which ones do you hope never do?

ahh thank you!! you are so sweet! Thank you for sharing my story with others! I am feeling that love! haha! :)

I LOVED slouch socks. Of course those were still cool in the early nineties when I was in grade school! I would double up all kinds of colors! I especially loved hot pink and yellow! hahah! And PUFF PAINT! We puff painted everything in those days! Oh and the stretchy stirrup pants! You were'nt cool in my grade without the stirrups!

actually i really am not liking the upturned collar on little boy's polo shirts....i see that all the time and it makes me want to look really sternly at their mother's.
the highwaisted pants are coming back for women (as well as the slender jeans...yuck!) and double yuck!
and the hair had better NEVER make a come back. i lived in SoCal back in the day and some of those girls could get their hair soooooo tall, it was utterly amazing (i was not really one of those) i think that i could go on and on about the fashion tragedies of the '80's (as could everyone else....) i'll just close my eyes to such monstrosities!

Thank God I was born in 86...I was stinking cute in my baby clothes! No freaky 80s styles for me!

BUT my mom was a different story! She had short, permed hair. Big 80s glasses. MC Hammer pants (ok that may be more 90s). Yeah....

Although I didn't really get to participate in wearing anything of those stylish clothes, (expect I did have a swatch watch...you defiantly can't forget about the sweet guard for protection)I do remember my siblings wearing them.
I do agree with you...I hope that the big feathered hair does NOT come back.
Great post!!!!:)

jimminy....for a second there I thought the chick with the "pre-pegged" pants was ME. I looked just like that!

I remember those cosby sweaters, I bought them for my hubby when we were dating. Too cool. Smitty's used to carry them. Remember Smitty's?

I am glad for the strawberry shortcake come-back (love her! and brings back happy thoughts) but some of the other stuff..UGH! please don't let tall hairdo's come back. Keds are ok.

Oh, and floral dresses were late 80's early 90's...I still occasionally see people in church wearing the floral pattern (over the whole dress) and I want to gag but whatev.

Yes - High waisted jeans are back and big belts are back in, too, I'm afraid.

Ah the 80's! That was my hey day:) Do you remember units? The one size fits all pants, skirts, shirts with the wide tube top like belts. You were certainly cool when you had those. How about dove shorts? I definetly remember swatches(with the guard of course) and multi colored slouch socks and keds. I hope the hair doesn't come back though...i don't think the environment can handle that much aqua net again:)

Stirrup pants could not come back and I'd be ok. And men in bright colored turtlenecks/sweatshirts needs to stay away. I am still waiting for Rainbow Brite to make a comeback!

I don't want the ugly hairstyles to come back. Being a hair stylist I hope to not have to do those kinds of hairstyles. Or the peg leg jeans those are hideous. Pretty much most of the 80's yuck. Some of the music is ok, but that is it.

I sure hope that kid survived with all the hairspray she inhaled through her life. That was too funny and the mullet. What is it with mullets? Please can they just go away!!!

That was a walk down memory lane. I had or did all of that and loved it. Dressing was an event not just something that you did, it took time and coordination to make a statement like that. I loved it!!!

I think with all the things that are coming back, do they dare to bring back the BIG padded shoulders???

LOL, The big hair of the '80's got to admit I had the big hair, but don't ever want it to come back. Although I love the big hair bands of the '80's they had some great music! My oldest son was born in
'85. Didn't really like some of the syles of the '80's. Someone mention stir-up pants, they were a remake I remember my mom wearing those in the '60's.

Ah, the 80's. I think we should all start pegging our pants. I don't quite know how to rock those feathered bangs though. You saw my poor attempt last Friday...

Just thought of some other fashions of the '80's that I forgot was leg warmers, jelly shoes, and shoulder pads.

I loved the movies and the music of the eighties. DUH! I loved some of the tv shows even though they were cheesy. I think it is so cool they are making movies based on some of those shows. ie Transformers and GI JOE to name but two.

The big hair is the worst thing from the eighties! ! can of hairspray per day for some of those chics...... funny how we all thought that was cool.

Oh...and parachute pants....oh my....hammer don't hurt 'em.....lol

I totally had the acid washed denim jacket with the patches all over it.....WOW, can't believe I just admitted that!

Great post!

I am scared to see leg warmers coming back:)

Oh, I think we should all post our favorite picture from the 80's. Um, I just got rid of the 80's hair last year...I'm still in mourning over the loss of my hot rollers.

I loved the drop waist shirts with stirup pants and flats with the bows on the toes...those shoes are making a comeback now!

Thank you for giving me such a laugh this morning! Tears are still rolling down my face after seeing the picture of the couple and little girl with the huge hair. Your blog is funny, and I will bookmark it for return visits!

I miss my skinny black leather tie.

I had a Swatch knock off, and Eastland-ish shoes. Lately, I have seen the upturned collars on Izod shirts. I have also seen the leggings under the short skirts. However, I have not seen Day-Glo neon, the big hair, or the big off-the-shoulder sweater dresses with the big belt

Ocean Pacific T-shirts can come back if they want, I liked them. White shirts with big, black, block lettering telling me to "Relax" yeah, not so much. The lines cut into the hair on the sides of a guys head probably should stay in the 80's.
