Halloween 2011

Ok -- I already gave you a sneak-peek at PrettyPrettyPrincess' "Storm" costume a few days ago, so I will gloss over her a bit in this post.

Funnyman decided that since this is his senior year of high school it's his last official year as a "kid" and he too wanted to go trick-or-treating.  He is going under the guise of taking his little sister. Right - Whatever!  We all know that he wants some candy too.

I asked him what his costume was.  There was a bit of discussion and I think it ended up being "college bum".  Gee -- I hope that's not a precursor, haha.

He asked to go to a party tonight too -- I told him yes, but he gets to take his sister to that too. lol.

I didn't have time to do her hair like I did the other night for the fall festival, but we still sprayed it with white and silver and I think they both look cute.

LittleDuckling wanted to go as "Steve" from the video game Minecraft.  Here is a picture of Steve:

He decided to make his own costume and worked on it at his dad's house for days.  I think it turned out pretty good too.

 He's got black mesh for the "eyes" so he can still see plenty through the box.  And let's not forget the treasure chest for his candy!

Even though it was one of the warmest evenings all month, I did make him put on a brown turtleneck before heading out to trick or treat with his friends.  They all looked good, and I let them have double the loot when they showed up on my doorstep.  :)

After everybody left, I set the filled treat bowl out on the porch, came inside, put my jammies on and started on my homework (and this blog post).  It's been the most relaxing Halloween I've had in years!

Halloween Storm

Ok - so this is Halle Berry as "Storm" from the X-Men movies.  (I think this is from the 2nd one?)

Black outfit, black gloves, silver cape, silvery-white wispy hair. 

In case you weren't aware, Storm's superhero ability is control over the weather.  I thought my daughter would like to be her for Halloween since she loves the weather.  (Seriously.  She's been watching the Weather Channel since before she was in Kindergarten.)  PrettyPrettyPrincess agreed Storm would make a cool Halloween Costume. 

I looked online for some inspiration.  I saw that this lady got the actual Storm costume from the movie at an auction.  The winning bid?  A price tag of over $43,000!!!  Suffice it to say, that was a smidge over my budget.

Then I found THIS costume at all of the online shops and local retailers for $30.  Ok, much better price tag, but in my opinion - totally LAME costume.

HERE is what WE came up with for PrettyPrettyPrincess, and THIS is how she looked for the church Halloween Party last night...

Silvery white wispy hair, check!  After I did her hair we sprayed it with white hair color followed by silver sparkles.  It cost just under $5 for both cans of hair spray paint.

She already had the black shirt, pants and boots. 

I bought some silver fabric about 4 years ago to sew a Christmas Tree Skirt.  But, then getting distracted (big surprise) the fabric got stashed somewhere to be forgotten until I thought about making her a cape.  I suddenly remembered where it was and Voila ~ a few simple stitches and a superhero cape is born!  

I think she looks pretty cool, if I do say so myself.  And she DID win the prize for the best superhero costume, even beating out Spiderman - hehe.

I was trying to talk the kidlets into ALL of us going as a family of superheroes this year for Halloween.  You should have seen the raised eyebrows.  The eye rolls were about as loud as their sighs too. I suppose those days are over.  I will just have to wait until I have another baby or for when I have grandbabies (which better be waaaaaaay far away from now!).

LittleDuckling still wants to dress up, just not part of a family theme.  He has informed me that he wants to be Steve, from something called MineCraft.  I can only assume it's a video game of some sort.  He will be working on his costume this Saturday.  We will see how that turns out.

Who's On First?

Sorry the sound didn't come through on the video yesterday. If I wasn't so swamped with classes and work, I would have had time to redo. Anyway... you get the idea. So she asked him to the Sadie Hawkin's dance last weekend. He said yes.

They were supposed to wear Halloween costumes. He and his friends and their dates decided to go as the opposite sex. But not just any opposite sex mind you. For some reason my son turned into some trampy girl (but actually came off looking as some trashy tranny, lol!) and his friend decided to go as Pocahontas or Hiawatha or something. The girls decided to just be dudes.

I don't know whether to be amused or scared... It's just that they looked like they were enjoying it a little tooooooooo much. Oh - and these are the pics I snagged from The Girl's mom (thanks Amy!).

Need a Hallow-Win!

I need your ideas!!! I need an idea for a Halloween costume! I don't sew. I have little or no money. I cannot wear skimpy costumes... just trust me on this. That being said, I need an idea for a CLEVER and EASY costume!!! Not LAME either... I mean, I want something that doesn't require extreme makeup, but yet good enough - clever enough - to win a prize... Yeah, I'm not PICKY at all!!! lol!

So, hit me with some Bloggy Goodness... What ideas do you have for me???

Howling Halloween Hound

So - by now you've probably heard about 4-legged creature. She gets into things from time to time. She doesn't chew on our shoes or anything like that. But she loves food.

Well - the other night I was making some "Sticky Halloween Crunch" for my recipe group. Afterwards, she just kept whining. I was trying to have a meaningful phone conversation with Big-D, okay - well a conversation anyway - and she just wouldn't simmer down. She continued to stand beneath the counter and HOWL - I mean really HOWL because she could smell the Sticky Halloween Crunch cooling on the parchment paper above.

When my kids do this (well, whine - not howl) I let them lick the spoon. So, I take my wooden spoon from the sticky pot in the sink and hand it to the dog, figuring she can suck on that for a while and let me finish my call in peace. Needless to say the "sticky" in "Sticky Halloween Crunch" is a sugary syrup. Well, apparently she had no patience to "suck on that" for a while. In her attempt to BITE OFF THE SYRUP - SHE CHEWED MY WOODEN SPOON TO TINY PIECES!!! There were shards of wood all over my hallway!!! I should have guessed that this Devil of a Dog is one naughty little Ghoul and will do anything for food.

So, about 30 minutes later, she was all hyped up on sugary syrup (I know - I'm a BAD doggy-mom) and PrettyPrettyPrincess was trying to get her to calm down. I took these pictures of her - and they are not touched up AT ALL!!! Do you see what I see??? Perhaps eating "Sticky Halloween Crunch" really brought out the little devil in her!

Spooky!

Thinking it was about 9:30 at night, and the room was fairly dark...perhaps it was a reflection from the flash and the lamp in the room. So, I made my daughter sit in the exact same spot to test this theory!

Nope! She's still an Angel!
