Tuesday Tunage: "I'm Yours"

One time as a kid I remember my dad saying he really didn't care for musicals. I asked him why. His response? "It's just not realistic; people breaking into song at any given moment in any given place..." I remember thinking, "That's not normal?"

I guess I am just so into music that I often have various "soundtracks" for my life playing through my mind. Perhaps it's just that I hear a song and think, "That is exactly what I am feeling right now!" So, then I latch on to that song and play it over and over and can't get enough. Drives my kids nuts. I am not like people who say, "I don't really listen to the words... just the music." Not me. I listen to the lyrics; I love lyrics.

Here's the latest song stuck in my head. (Sorry, John Mayer. I'm going outside of our "relationship" for this one.) It's so how I'm feeling right now...

Here's Jason Mraz with "I'm Yours".

[by the way, it uses the word "damn" twice...just a caution for those who may be offended]

Well, you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks, now I'm tryin to get back
before the cool done run out I'll be givin it my best test
and nothin's gonna stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some

But I won't hesitate no more,
no more, it cannot wait
I'm yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
open up your plans and damn you're free
look into your heart and you'll find love love love love
listen to the music of the moment people dance and sing
We're just one big family
And it's our godforsaken right to be loved loved loved loved loved

So, I won't hesitate no more,
no more, it cannot wait I’m sure
there's no need to complicate our time is short
this is our fate
I'm yours

Doo-ja doo doo doo-ja
ba-doo-ja doo-ja doo-doo
ba-doo-ja you want to come on

Scooch on over closer, dear
And I will nibble your ear

swoo-dee wabbwa wabbwa wo
Wo.........................................hmmm

I've been spendin' way too long checkin' my tongue in the mirror
and bendin' over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
and so I drew a new face and I laughed
I guess what I'd be sayin' is there ain't no better reason
to rid yourself of vanities and just go with the seasons
it's what we aim to do
our name is our virtue

But I won't hesitate no more,
no more it cannot wait
I'm yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
open up your plans and damn you're free
look into your heart and you will find that the sky is yours

so please don't, please don't, please don't,
there's no need to complicate,
Cause our time is short
This-o, this-o, this is our fate,
I'm yours

I love that song! It's the perfect remedy (another Mraz song I think:-).

I am loving Mraz lately too! And, seriously, you and me are the same-- I listen to lyrics. Music is awesome.

Although, in MY family, people *DO* break into random songs ALL the TIME!!

You know we break out in song all the time. Can't you just see me ruining MM's life by breaking out in a Sound of Music fashion right in Wal-Mart? It wouldn't ruin Taylor's life because she would be singing with me!

I SO do the same thing you do. The girls are so tired of "Sweetly Broken" Jeremy Riddle. Taylor said she would rather listen to the funeral music CD (classical) than hear "Sweetly Broken" again.

Have I mentioned that we are going to see Third Day. I'm so excited!

i think that musicals are a lot like action movies... because you have to suppress your disbelief. Yeah, people don't really break into song at the racetrack, but people also don't survive being shot at by machine guns during 20 minute long high speed chases.

good song.

I love this song too! Jason's voice (yes, we're on a first name basis now!) is so clean and clear and so EASY. Have you heard "Beautiful Mess" or "Live High"...oh and there's one that totally got me through a real rough couple of weeks. It might have been called "breathe deep" or something but it was about knowing who you are and I LovED it! Check it out!

I like the lyrics to songs too and we are always coming up with some song like someone will say a word and than someone else is sing a song to that word, silly but it is fun!

I love that song! Thanks, I never could figure out who sang it. Now I can stick it on my playlist.

I do the same thing... listen to the same song over and over. What is bad about that is though, my emotion gets stuck with the song so after a while, I cannot listen to it anymore because all the emotions also come back to me with it!!

I do like the song by the way. Really catchy. Is he really the one for you?
